Enhance your GMB listing during lockdown – Part 1

Part 1 – Update your opening hours

Depending on what country or region of the UK you’re in, your opening hours may be temporary or due to change.

Therefore, it’s important that your times are kept up to date on your Google Business listing so that customers know when to call or visit, or if you’re temporarily closed let your customers know when you’re due to reopen again.

On your GMB dashboard, there’s a few options available to you in order to show your times.

Firstly, you can use the standard open and closing times section to change your current hours of opening. Any changes made here are usually instant, although it can take a hour or so for it become visible to people searching for your business.

Secondly, there is a section for you to add ‘more hours’ if you are offering a service different to your usual hours of opening. For example, this may apply to a restaurant that is closed for dine-in, but is able to offer delivery/takeout at certain times of the day.

Another example is a shop or supermarket that offers special hours during the day for certain shoppers such as senior shoppers or a ‘quiet hour’ for autistic shopping.

Lastly, there is a ‘special hours’ section that is usually best utilised for small periods of closure such as Bank Holidays, Christmas etc. This section is useful if you have irregular hours of opening, or want to let customers know that you are closed for a particular day in advance.

If your business is temporarily closed as a result of lockdown (or for any other reason) then you can also use the ‘mark as temporarily closed’ button that will flag up a message on your listing when anyone views it. This can be easily turned off from within your GMB dashboard.
